It's July now. If it were an average year, we would be breathing a sigh of relief as the final exams ended. This year, due to the influence of corona we have to start our term-end exams next week. During the first term, we had quite a few days when the school was closed. Then, there were both assignment learning and online learning, depending on the subject. So the exams are to measure how well you have learned. It may be the first time for some of you to take examinations at Shinonome. Please study enough for the exams.
It is very disappointing that various competitions and events that are held every year, such as the Koshien high school baseball tournament held every summer, have been voluntarily canceled. To our joy, alternative games and competitions seem to be being planned. In September, Shinonome will hold our athletic meet and our cultural festival, Clover day, which we can look forward to. Hoping that the corona infection in our prefecture will continue to decline as it is today, we would like infection prevention to come first, and I hope that you will come up with various ideas as you prepare for these events. The new student council members who plan and organize the events have been selected.
The other day, the student council held a general meeting and I was able to attend to see it. They had in advance researched ideas for making their school life comfortable, fun and meaningful. Five of those requests were submitted to the general meeting. However, each and every one of you plays a leading role in the school. There are many rules in school for you, but we need to make them better to match the changing society and times. To that end, I would like you to present what you are thinking about. That goes for homeroom activities and classes. In the days of Principal Gillette, your seniors suggested the idea of an "unsupervised exam" at a student meeting and asked for it to be taken up at a teachers' meeting. And the school responded to the students' request at last, according to the record. What do you think happened after that? Please check out "Shinonome Gakuen Centennial" in our school.
Now, the season for worrying about flooding has come around. This school year, you are taking care to prevent infections, such as always wearing a mask and avoiding densely populated areas in your life different from before in response to Corona, but what about other natural disaster prevention? Do you know where to take shelter if it happens? Have you checked where you would evacuate to if it happened, or have you checked the evacuation sites near your house? A useful tool for this purpose is a hazard map. Hazard maps allow you to find out what kind of disaster risks there are in your area. Be sure to check them at least once.
